Marina and The Diamonds - Oh No! (Active Child Remix)

Pat Grossi's string of home run remixes continues as he takes Marina's purest pop moment and drags it through the bushes backwards, scruffing it up nicely. Where the original version of 'Oh No' is a glossy call to arms the Active Child remix blows out a thick smoky fug, taking the sparkle and turning it darker.

So May is pretty much over bar the long weekend and it's easily been the best month for record releases of the year so far. So many of discs on the list below will almost certainly feature on my end of year list with Foals and LCD Soundsystem likely to be jostling for the top spot alongside the stunning opening statements from Male Bonding and Active Child.

Kisses - Bermuda (Active Child Remix)

If someone had blended this blog into a drink recently there's a fairly good chance it would taste something like Kisses and Active Child. Having introduced you to Kisses via a First and Last as well as broadcasting Pat Grossi's re-workings of Steve Mason, Wolf Gang and Lonely Galaxy it's fair to say I'm pretty taken by this trio of stateside swooners. In what can only be described as 'good' then Active Child has remixed Kisses forthcoming Transparent released single 'Kisses'. Grab it now via Pitchfork.

Steve Mason - Lost & Found (Active Child remix)

Soundcloud works like a mix between Spotify and a social network, so you can upload and stream tracks as well as hear things other people have put on there by following them. I really like it and it's only going to get better as more and more people get involved.

Uploaded by Domino Records is this excellent remix of the ex-Beta Band singer Steve Mason's brand new solo single. The original is pretty minimal and makes for nice day time radio listening but the remix takes it to another level. Marking the third appearance for Active Child on this blog in a week (surely a record). Stream/ download below.

Wolf Gang - Back To Back (Active Child remix)

Earlier this week I posted the Active Child remix of the new Lonely Galaxy song. Lo and behold he's gone and done it again, this time with another lone star Wolf Gang. This time AC (aka, Pat Grossi)takes Wolf's sleek pop sheen and drenches it in synth and reverb. So far, so usual for 2010 you may think but the results are something special and uniquely haunting. The seconds unti his remix of 'Bermuda' by Kisses lands are counting down slowly...
